The Importance of Your Reel Adjusters Bolts
REEL ADJUSTER CLAMP BOLTS: "What's all the fuss?"
When tightening off the 5/16 UNF nut of your reel adjuster bolts on your Scott Bonnar 45/Rover 45 do you get a significant change in your reel to bedknife contact? There can be a few reasons for this, but a common cause is a concave section/groove in the reel adjustment slot in which the bolt falls back into when tightened (see video below). The cause of this is soft washers which don't have the necessary high tensile strength.
A soft 'standard' washer over time will concave when tightened and therefore start to flex/affect the chassis, which is why it is critcal for the longevity of your mower to ensure a high tensile washer is used. Our reel adjustment bolts not only have a high tensile washer but also use a 5/16 nylock half nut to ensure adequate thread engagment and also reduceing the need to run a star washer. As one of the most used bolts on the mower which is critical for ensuring a quality cut, we highly recommend upgrading to new reel adjuster clamp bolts when restoring your mower and repairing your chassis/or as a part of your next service.
As always done once, done right!
